Mayor Johansen has lived in Lexington for over six decades, along with his wife and three children, all of whom attended Lexington Schools. He proudly served in both the United States Air Force and the Army National Guard. His journey with the Lexington Police Department began in 1989 and led him to the role of Chief of Police until his retirement in 2009.
In 2013, he joined the City Council and, in 2017, was elected mayor. of Lexington Mayor Johansen's deep appreciation for this community springs from the enduring spirit and pride that grace every corner of Lexington, thanks to its wonderful citizens.
In his spare time, he enjoys simple pleasures, particularly working in his yard and tending to his hosta garden. Mayor Johansen’s vision for Lexington is rooted in sound financial management, fostering a thriving business district, and taking care of our infrastructure. He aims to ensure that Lexington's growth maintains its small-town charm while providing the conveniences of a bigger city.
Mayor Johansen's highest aspiration is to leave Lexington well-prepared so that future generations can share the same hope and enthusiasm for this great community.
